Today was a big day for Grace, as she finally got her retainer. Yes, she has been excited for it since she found out she had to get one. (Which I thought was strange until I remembered how bummed out I was as a kid when I never needed braces!) One of her top teeth sits far behind the others and it is rubbing against the bottom one, which is called a cross-bite and is apparently bad news. So she gets the retainer for now, with a promise from the orthodontist that this will not be the last of dental corrections for her, since she has some overcrowding as well. I guess we'll start saving up.
But for now, she is really cute about it. She got to pick the color (glow-in-the-dark hot pink with turquoise sparkles) and if anybody is responsible enough to take care of it and wear it 24 hours a day, it's our Grace. In her bedtime prayer tonight, she said, "Please help me to not lose my retainer until I've worn it for the whole time I'm supposed to." Then she went to sleep, very excited to show all her friends at school tomorrow!

Wow! Congrats Grace. I too loved my retainer. You are so grown up.
OH, and the hardest part for me was lunch time when I'd wrap it in a napkin. I threw it away on accident a few times- so be careful!
I loved my retainer too! I was really bummed when I lost it at Debbie Miller's house at a b-day party. Nana and Papa didn't let me get another one. :(
Wow Quincy my mom said that if I lost it or threw it away on accident then I would go back to the orthodontist and redo the mold! I can't believe that your parents didn't let you get another retainer. And Tess I never knew that you even had a retainer!
That last comment was by me, Grace!
I think Grace could teach my boys about being responsible and wearing their retainers when they're supposed to. Hot pink with sparkles sounds very cute.
