This weekend we went down to spend the night at the Muffoletto's on Bainbridge Island and we had a great time!
Miranda and her friend babysat so we could go over to Seattle and hang out with Filipe and Joei. We went on the Underground Seattle Tour, which was really cool. Quick background: When Seattle was first built in the late 1800's, people didn't take into account where they were building and had tons of problems with the tides and being built on a sandbar. So when a fire destroyed a lot of the town in the 1890's, they were a bit smarter and built everything up higher, but the original buildings are still underneath. The tour took us down there, where they haven't touched anything for over a hundred years. There were lots of interesting things to see and great stories. If you go to Seattle, I give this tour 2 thumbs up!

We also went to the Seattle Zoo, which is one of the best zoos we've been to. Filipe's brother Chris and his wife Mercedes, who live in Seattle, came too. The kids all had a great time, but Sam especially got really into it! He was so excited about every animal! We made the mistake of going to the petting zoo section first, so after that Sam wanted to "get in" with every animal.
Liam, Grace, and a big gorilla. I didn't get a good picture, but we got to see one gorilla nursing a brand new baby. It was so cute!
Sam and his orangutan buddy
Clint Eastwood and a gorilla
Grace loved this arctic fox
The highlight of the trip was the grizzly bears, who came right up to the glass where we were standing and gave us quite a show, play fighting with each other and sticking their noses on the glass. Sam got a little scared and took off running when they started swimming over to us. Even when he saw that they couldn't get through the glass, he covered his eyes and clung to us tightly. Later he kept talking about the bears and said, "Them tried to KILL me!"

how fun! I can't wait to take Lance to Seattle and up to see you guys sometime. We are counting down the days- one week from today we are leaving! We can't wait. I'm trying to get everything in order to go. It's a kind of crazy week!
Another fun trip! The Underground tour sounds very cool, if we ever make it to Seattle, I'll put it on our itinerary! Poor Sam, I hope he recovers from his bear scare! :)
Cute pictures! That looks like a great zoo! That is so neat about the underground tour.
What a fun city. You guys are lucky you are so close.
Hey Erin, I found your blog! So cute! The pathetic thing is I've lived here my whole life and been to Seattle a million times and never done the underground tour! You may have inspired me to go. As for this week tomarrow night we are recognizing each others Individual worth and that of our own. We are each bringing a snack to add to the "friendship bowl" to share (pretzels, candies,....) Sunday the women are all going to RS so you don't need to prepare a lesson. Call me if you have questions.
That Zoo looks awesome! The underground city totally makes me think of Futurama! Did you see any mutants? Y'all have so much fun!!
