Give Me a Home Where the Buffalo Roam

Last week we took a quick trip to Wyoming to find our new house. And we discovered that the Ratchford kids remain great little travelers, but house hunting? Yeah, not so much. After two long days of looking at houses, we were always very excited to see this:

On Sam's birthday we were driving around and looking for a park to burn off some kid energy when we saw a sign that said "Wild Horse Viewing Area." Well, I ask you, how do you NOT take that turn to check it out?!

What we learned is that there are thousands of wild horses that roam the area, so many that their herds grow very quickly and the land can't support them all. So the BLM periodically rounds them up to sell, and we got to see the corrals holding a bunch of them. The wanna-be cowgirl in me now desperately wants to adopt a wild mustang... or at least a wild burro. Very romantic, wild west-ish, if you ask me.

We were very excited that Sam got to see a huge herd of mustangs on his birthday, but when we got back to Washington and I told him to tell his preschool teacher the cool things he saw, he proceeded to tell her all about a giant ant hill.

The night of his birthday we went out to a yummy Mexican restaurant to celebrate. And everyone knows that the only way to properly celebrate turning five is with a huge virgin margarita:

(And maybe a sopapilla and ice cream, too.)

Our favorite part of the trip was getting to see some family. When we flew to SLC on Sunday, Davy and Rachel had us over for a yummy dinner and we got to see Nanny Flo and Auntie Elaine, too. (Oops, forgot to take pictures, but thanks, guys!)

The day we flew home, we stopped to see my sister Cait and her kids, and my parents drove down to see us, too. We got to hang out for a few hours before catching our plane.

Last, but not least, even with four grumpy children, we did manage to find exactly what we were looking for.
