The Friday before school started, the kids and I took a drive to South Pass City, a ghost town and state historical sight two hours north of Rock Springs. It was built in the 1800's when gold was discovered there, then abandoned years later when the mine closed. I know I have an unusual passion for anything historical, but I really think anyone would love this place.
It was very cool.
I somehow got these photos out of order... these were at the park on the way home.

My favorite part was the old country store.

One of many old mines, but the only one we were told was safe to go into.

Of course the boys were fascinated by the outhouses.

Blacksmith shop.

The old jail. In later years, the front room of the jail was turned into a school by day. There is even an alphabet still visible on the wall.

And doesn't every good day end with ice cream?
